Shaker Rocks to host climbing qualifying event Feb. 26: Press Run

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio –Shaker Rocks, the indoor rock climbing facility located in the Van Aken District, is looking to create national champions. It will begin that quest by hosting a USAC (USA Climbing) sport and speed qualifying event Feb. 26.

For those who are unaware, sport climbing and speed climbing were two of the three events that debuted in the last Summer Olympics. As Johnny Carson might have said, “I did not know that.”

Competitors for the Feb. 26 event will be coming to town from places such as northern Indiana, Michigan, various parts of Ohio, western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. In all, there will be 175 competitors, including 38 young climbers representing Shaker Rocks.

Competitors will vie in five age categories, from 6 to 19.

Along with the competition, the day will be filled with music, cheering and kids showing their grit and determination. Shaker Rocks will have on hand 50 volunteers, coaches and staff, all making sure the activity level is high.

Climbing will be closed to the public Feb. 26, but spectators are welcome. For more details on this big event, visit shakerrocksclimbing.com. When on that site, you’ll see that Shaker Rocks, 3377 Warrensville Center Road, is also hiring fitness instructors.
