Climbing Club FAQ

Climbing Club FAQ

Why should I sign my child up for Club?

Because your child will have a ball climbing with their peers! Our coaches focus on creating a culture of support and encouragement so even the newest climbers feel comfortable and successful on the wall. Climbing is built on trust, so bonds of friendship become incredibly strong. Not only will your child benefit socially and emotionally, but the physical and mental challenges that climbing presents are something that everyone finds extremely appealing.

How is this different from the club model last year?

Climbing Club now runs in 12-week sessions instead of 4-week sessions. Longer sessions better suit the change in our curriculum from a skills-based model to a mastery-based model. Every climber will have their own progress file, and coaches will monitor their individual growth. On top of technical climbing skills, your child will develop problem-solving abilities, situational awareness, and emotional regulation, in other words, the full range of skills necessary to function independently in a climbing gym environment.

Why did we change from a 4-week session to a 12-week session?

Two main reasons:
 - Climbing is a community-building activity which lends itself to developing trusting relationships with one’s climbing partners. Longer sessions help foster this community building aspect of the sport.
 - Students’ activities tend to run in seasons. Mirroring school sports seasons will make it easier for students to participate in everything they’d like to do.

Is this a good fit for my kid?

Who has never climbed before?
It’s a perfect fit! Our coaches focus on creating a culture of support and encouragement so even the newest climbers feel comfortable
and successful and the wall.

Who has been in club or rec league for the past year or has climbed regularly for years:
Absolutely! Our coaches are professionally trained to address the needs of more advanced climbers.  Coaches will assess your child’s skills and build on what they already know.

How much of a commitment is CLub?

The minimum commitment is 1.5 hours, once a week for 12 weeks.
