Intro Classes

Embark on your climbing journey with one of our introductory level classes. Led by our experienced instructors, these classes teach basic skills and techniques that will help you feel comfortable on the wall, gain confidence, and expand your community.

Taste of Climbing

Wondering what this whole climbing thing is all about? Come find out with a Taste of Climbing! For one hour a Shaker Rocks staff member will show you the ropes (yes, pun intended). They’ll get you set up with gear, run you through orientation, teach you how to use the autobelays, belay you on the tall walls, and guide you through bouldering.

Intro to Climbing

New to climbing but aren’t sure how to start? Enjoying the sport but could use a little direction? Then Intro to Climbing is just for you! Over the course of 90 minutes, your instructor will guide you through an introduction to climbing movement, terminology, and technique, helping you to progress as a climber. This class includes a free two-week gym membership with rental gear.

Climb As You Are for Women: The Basics

This class is for women, no matter your gender presentation/expression or assigned sex at birth. Whether you’re brand new to the sport or have been climbing for some time, you’re welcome here. Over the course of six weeks you’ll develop your climbing technique, physical strength, and mental confidence in a supportive environment. Our focus will be working climbs within the V0-V1 and 5.8-5.10- range.

Belay Class

Do you want to learn how to manage the ropes and access the full gym? This course will teach you how to belay (manage the rope so as not to drop your climbing partner) and prepare you to pass the belay check so you can top rope independently at Shaker Rocks. You will learn basic knot tying, climbing commands, buddy checks, and how to belay. This class includes a free two-week gym membership with rental gear.
